Here in Kikakyushu the annual Illuminations in the centre of Kokura have just gone up. These are always great to see every year, and this year is no different. The "60th" mark that you can see is because 2023 is the 60th anniversary of formation of Kitakyushu City. In 1963, Kitakyushu City was created by bringing together five smaller cities: Kokura, Moji, Tobata, Wakamatsu, and Yahata. This collaboration was aimed at making things more organized and boosting the area's development. Since then, Kitakyushu has grown into a key industrial, commercial, and cultural hub in the region. It's known for its history and diverse offerings, making it an important city in southern Japan.
